The Fun Part
The fun part about this course is . . . well, just about all of it because learning to dive is incredible. You breathe underwater for the first time (something you’ll never forget) and learn what you need to know to become a certified diver. During the course, you’ll make pool dives and four dives at local dive sites under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.

What You Learn
Throughout the course, you'll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques, through knowledge development instruction in our large, air-conditioned classroom. This knowledge is then applied in the confined water training session, where you begin practicing the skills necessary for for safe diving. Finally, you participate in four open water dives, exploring all the fun underwater has to offer. Make sure to ask us how to qualify for free additional training dives.

Knowledge Development (online, or home study with classroom ) to understand basic principles of scuba diving
Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills

What You Need to Start
To enroll in the PADI Open Diver course or Junior Open Water Diver course, you must

Be 10 years or older
Personal gear - mask, snorkel, fins and booties. You will find all the best gear and pricing at Island Divers.
Schedule a class and get home-study materials.

The Learning Materials You Need
Home-study materials for the PADI Open Water Diver course come in a crew pack that includes a book and DVD package or a multimedia DVD-ROM along with a logbook, electronic dive table (eRDPml), and a carrying folder.

PADI’s Open Water Diver materials cover what you need to know about basic scuba diving skills, terminology and safety procedures. For each concept you’ll read a description and watch a video demonstration. Then you’ll jump in the pool to practice these skills with your instructor. Later, as a certified diver, use the course materials as a reference guide for future diving adventures and to review what you learned.

These products are included with the price of the course.

The Scuba Gear You Use
In the PADI Open Water Diver course, you learn to use basic scuba gear ((Tank, Weights, BC, Regulators, Wetsuit) and standard accessories. The equipment you wear varies somewhat, depending upon whether you’re diving in tropical, temperate or cold water. The use of the basic scuba gear in the pool session is included with the price of the course. There is a student rental discount on the gear for the lake sessions; however, if you have purchased our personal gear listed above, we will waive the rental fee.

Price:    $299 includes home study materials and other training materials, certification card, pool equipment, student discounts/specials, bonus dives,
                                    DAN insurance during the course, and subscription to Dive Training Magazine.

Schedule:     Classes start the 1st and 3rd weekend of most months. Private classes are available at an additional charge.

Can I do part of my course on a trip?
Yes! The PADI Confined Water Referral program allows you to complete the knowledge development and pool sessions here at home with Island Divers, leaving only four fun open water dives to be fulfilled when you arrive at your destination. The price for this course is $199.

Can I do part of my course online?
Yes! The PADI eLearning program allows you to complete the knowledge development session online at your leisure, then sign up at Island Divers to complete the pool and lake sessions.
